About

Andrew-pitmaster

Some names never leave Texas.

If you grew up in Houston, chances are you remember Luther’s Bar-B-Q—the smell of smoke rolling out of the pit room, stacks of brisket coming off the block, baked potatoes bigger than your plate, and a place where families gathered around great Texas barbecue.

For me, Luther’s wasn’t just a restaurant.
It was my first job.

As a teenager growing up in Houston, I started working at the Luther’s off the Gulf Freeway (South I-45). My job at first wasn’t glamorous—I was cleaning the pit room, hauling wood, and doing whatever needed to be done. But if you’ve ever been around a real pit room, you know something happens when you spend enough time there. The smoke gets in your clothes… and the craft gets in your blood.

Before long I worked my way up to the cut line, slicing brisket and loading baked potatoes for hungry Texans walking through the line.

That experience stuck with me.

After leaving Houston, I went on to serve in the United States Army, but one thing never left me—the passion for Texas Bar-B-Q. Over the years I learned from some of the best pitmasters in the game, studying the craft, cooking my own barbecue, and eventually entering competitions where I was fortunate enough to bring home a few wins for brisket and barbecue sauce.

But the whole time, something stayed in the back of my mind.

That name.

Luther’s Bar-B-Q.

A Houston original.

When I discovered the Luther’s name was available again, I knew exactly what I had to do.

In March of 2026, I officially secured the rights to the name and became the new owner of Luther’s Bar-B-Q.

This isn’t just about bringing back an old brand.

It’s about honoring the legacy while pushing it forward.

We’re keeping the nostalgia that made Luther’s special to generations of Texans—but we’re also kicking it up a notch, bringing a modern craft barbecue approach to a legendary name.

Same Texas roots.
Same love for smoked meat.
Same Houston spirit.

Just done with the experience of a lifetime around the pit.

So whether you remember Luther’s from the old days, or you’re discovering it for the first time…

Stay tuned.

Because Luther’s Bar-B-Q is coming back.

And I'm bringing a little Houston barbecue history to North Texas to start a new chapter.
